Tourism

Study Programme Structure

Tourism is the study programme that educates the vocational economist who will be able to work in different areas of the tourism industry. As the ultimate goal, the study programme will provide and enable the acquisition of the appropriate and applicable knowledge, skills and competences, training students to work independently in the industry immediately after graduation. Depending on their personal aspirations, the students will gain a solid base for the continuance of second level studies.

The study programme consists of mandatory and elective courses. At the first year, it provides fundamental knowledge in the field of general economy, economy applied in tourism and management, whereas at the second and third years courses enable the acquisition of professional and applicative knowledge and skills in marketing, tourist geography, operations of travel agencies and tour operators, strategic management, HR management, business finance, tourist destination management, information systems in tourism, traffic economy, service management, etc. The curricula of these courses focus on providing specific and applicable knowledge and skills in the field of operations of private and public travel organizations, travel enterprise operations, tourist destination management, etc.

Study Programme Objectives

The comparative advantages offered by the Toplica District, with the specificities expressed through cultural and historical heritage, spas and mountains, require the existing structure of the Tourism study programme. It is aimed at forming the high quality staff able to implement the acquired knowledge independently and increase the tourist offer in the travel industry of Serbia.

The main objective is the knowledge offered to the students in order to provide the diversified education of high quality, and train young experts for successful work and problem solving in the field of tourism.

Competences of Graduates

The study programme of the Tourism undergraduate vocational studies is focused on the development of competences in the field of tourism and economy, as well as the natural resource management.

The students of this programme will acquire the following competences:

  • Ability to analyze, synthesize, anticipate solutions and consequences in the field of tourism;
  • Mastering the methods, procedures and processes of research in tourism;
  • Development of critical and self-critical thinking and approach;
  • Ability to apply the acquired knowledge in practice;
  • Development of communication capacities and skills, as well as cooperation with a narrower social and international environments in which the tourism business systems operate;
  • Professional ethics and general code of ethics in tourism.

Upon completion of the Tourism study programme, the students will be able to perform a broad range of business activities in the field of tourism and other complementary branches.

Upon completion of this dynamic study programme, our graduates will be engaged in the following occupations:

  • Coordinator of development of integral tourist products in the public sector bodies and organizations;
  • Associate in the competent ministry;
  • Organizer of special fair exhibitions;
  • Assistant to professional fair organizers;
  • Assistant to professional organizers of congresses, conferences and exhibitions;
  • Planner, analyst and associates in travel companies, associations and public sector;
  • Travel agency branch manager;
  • Central booking manager;
  • Tourist destination manager;
  • Marketing analyst in travel enterprises;
  • Teacher of practice classes in high vocational schools.
